Her deception had been well-disguised,
By a faulty humor,
And a seeming lust for life.
But you know,
We always see,
That which we want to see.

"So you've got a friend,
And you won't have to be alone,
And my, aren't we relieved,
That he's found a companion,
With whom he can share his life.

But we are all spread so far,
And we see each other rarely,
And I just wasn't aware,
How ill you've come to appear.
We all know why,
So let's not even say the word;
Yes, we'll ignore it,
And pretend that there are other reasons,
Do not say that word;
Please, please, please...

I've tried to tell you,
Just like you once told me,
That our companions did not bring love.
No, they didn't even bear goodwill,
And yet, we push ever onward,
With our eyes completely closed.
We're just playing pretend,
Like we did when we were kids.
Watch out, my brother,
For she swings a lethal blade.

But how can you even know?
When your eyes are closed,
And you're playing pretend,
And she is painting your life,
Just like she cooks your breakfast -
The way she wants to,
And you say,
"That's just fine."

But fine, it isn't,
And life is but once,
And angry you would become,
If only your senses weren't so dulled.
But you, my friend,
Have partaken of the forbidden fruit,
And there is no more peace in the garden.
And I have shed a tear,
For a bold warrior has been lost,
And one more prisoner of war,
With senses dulled.
He can no longer fight the fight,
So, he watches as she cooks his breakfast,
And he says,
"That will be just fine."

Yep. I had a father that lived in that same hell on earth. It probably affected the way I look at women for the rest of my life, atr least in the early adult years.
