Glad You Are Gone
Well, its over now! Finished!
Today was the last day that I will ever have to see you.
I have no remorse. I do wish that it had not come to this.
But he had grown to love you too much.
Nothing I said to him made him see that you were
A destructive force in our life.
As much he loved you, I grew to despise you.
But it was not always this way,
For at first, I, too, realized your beauty,
And the seemingly goodness of your nature.
But he was captivated by you.
And the sight of you soon became an obsession with him.
He grew to feel that he could not do any of the things
That brought him pleasure
Unless he knew that you would be there.
Only I, had eyes to see that he had become
In bondage to you, a slave to your existence.
I told him that you had to go.
I asked him to be the one to get rid of you.
I waited. Nothing. Still you were a part of our life.
He made excuses. He gave reasons.
I knew that I would have to be the one to do it.
You were robbing him. And me.
So, today, while he was away, I did it.
I called the tree cutters, and had them chop you down.
No longer will you shed leaves in our pool.
No longer will your branches scrap the sides of our home.
Your trunk will no longer damage shingles on our roof.
In my eyes, your beauty died long ago.
I will never have to observe your putrid ugliness again.
I can barely wait for the moon and stars to shine through
The heavens that you had blocked for so long.
Hello, world, I can see you now!

Very well written....with a very bittersweet twist at the end!!
I feel sorry about the tree but if that's what it takes to see the moon...a man has got to take action!!

| Awww, the poor tree, after all what a few leaves in the pool, beauty never dies, look at yourself in the mirror, you are still as beautiful as the day you first met Al...call the tree doctor, maybe he can put the tree back together...LOL! I had the feeling throughout that that twist at the end was forthcoming...;) Ed |
