I Wonder

You leave Me Confused.

Ever since you said those words

That shattered all my dreams

When you said that love is for the birds

Togetherness is ended, no longer as a team.

You left me feeling hollow

With those hurtful words you used.

But now you act so mellow

Youíve left me all confused.

You even said you loved me

You act as if something has changed

The tears I wept you did not see.

You left me feeling strange.

Something was taken from me.

When you scorned my tears of despair

As I wept for the life we used to be.

It seemed that you did not care

The trust you have stolen from deep in my heart.

Has left deep within a dark empty space

Are you just acting, playing a part

And are you affectionate just to save face.

Although I still love you, I am all confused

Are you a Hawk, disguised as a Dove?

At times when you Kiss me, Iím feeling just used.

Because love is to trust, as to trust is to love.

Could we recapture what we used to be?

Could I ever trust youíd not hurt me again?

I could never again give all that is me.

Thinking one day youíll give me more pain.

I fear what we had is all but lost

I will weep for itís passing each day

You didnít consider the final cost.

When you said those words that hurt me this way.

Unfortunately, we tend to lash out and rant when angry without thinking of the consequences or how it will be perceived by the other person. Beautiful nostalgic write. "Because love is to trust, as to trust is to love," powerful sentence, Robin!

God bless,

one of the reasons people should be careful of painful words is that they cannot be erased if we change our mind. i know how you feel, robin, you are having trouble trusting again. take your time and just a bit of distance until you are sure.

Dear Robin,
This is such a lovely and touching poem ... but Robin is the name of my nephew's father, and so I cannot receive the thought as toward me. I do love my husband, very much. I am content, though life brought each of us great trials, we now have each other and want no more than to care for one another forever.
