Two poems that reflect the emotions we still face four years later. Do we remember? Do we forget? Can we ever move on with our lives, or will going on dishonor those who died?
A conundrum of major proportions.
|
"Choices, Choices"
I've grown far too comfortable in letting past events move in and become my room-mates and home decorators. They paint nightmarish scenes on the walls of my retinas, awful things I want to forget; I fall into the past while struglling to get beyond the debris of that day, trapped by the fear of letting go. Do I stay? Do I leave? I'm afraid that by forgetting, "they" will have died in vain ... I just do not know what to do.
"I Still Fall"
the sidewalks rise up to meet me; the sky shimmers overhead; the canyons echo with their names as i fall into rememberance ... and even after all these years, i still fall trying to forget.

This is stunning writing, and very courageous to write about such a terrible tragedy. I love the ending line, I think we'll all be trying to forget for our lifetimes.
Be well,
Kathy |

K,
You have captured the duality of grief and time expertly!
It was/is a day like we shall never see again in our years. It has defined us as a generation. Where we go/have gone from there is our legacy.
Peace and (((Hugs)))

Karla,
I don't think we can forget! It was a nightmare and the memories will haunt us forever. We must go on and we will stop the terrorists. Thank you for sharing these outstanding poems. Great remembrances, excellently expressed.

Some things we are never meant to forget. Thanks to the fire Chiefs and the other heros. Rich someone? especially. Thousands went home alive.
Worlds not been the same since. |

It is good to remember as long as we do not live our lives in despair over the past, otherwise the terrorists won on that day and the lives lost were in vain.
