This is an accurate poem explaining my mother's acceptance of her Arthritis.

Many years ago when I was just a kid

My mother contracted an illness that is horrid

One day it seems like

she was fine and the next an invalid

Crippled and arthritic never complaining while

In constant pain

From Rheumatoid Arthritis twisting and stiffening in

New locked positioning and the

She maintained high spirited and always laughing

And all she ever takes is aspirin.

The great mother in the world is one who

Fights to stand and gets to her feet and though

Disease has claimed itís victory

Sheís never been defeated

She stands on weakened legs by the power

Of her spirit

Sheíd cook my meals and made sure Iíd eat it

She paid the bills and managed all the families

Affairs and even though we all worked and all cared

She hasnít ever given up or into despair

Later there came many more severe physical threats

Operations as worse as it gets

And we all gathered and prayed

Night and day

And I followed her power of example to stay

And the Lord answered us and

She made it through

And with my sister persistently assisting all her needs

Pops became ill and lost his mind from old

Age and shortly after died

Then not too far down my sisterís body

Was laid down

And now my mother and I only by every grace of God

Survive and manage carefully our lives

My brother used to help but he now has a brand new bride

And a baby is on the way

So I just want very much to say

Thank You Almighty Christ

For come what may

If one holds on and believes

Faith will Save the Day!

Thanks for sharing this beautiful POEM. I love your writings, I feel them in the center of my being. I can relate to pain, I have spinal stenosis, osteo-arthritis, but, you are right our faith can play a real part in our lives. Thank you LORD.

Rich, thank you for sharing this with us. I like you Mother suffer from Osteo and Rheumatoid arthritis. It really sucks sometimes but I refuse to let it take me down! Gonna fight with all i've got! Unlike your Mom though a asprin just won't do it for me! It hurts so bad sometimes it is really difficult to sit much less type or write something new. But you did a wonderful job here!

What an uplifting, positive write of overcoming odds! I, too, have arthritis...but it doesn't have me. :) Well done, and congratulations for writing this winning poem! (((HUGS))) to you for writing it, and (((HUGS))) to Mama, just because!

Love, Karla. Celebrate!
