The Gift

Christmas Day 2005;
The house is filled with loved ones all around;
Aromas streaming from the kitchen; Laughter
of children; Yours, Mine and others-
There's a decorated tree standing just for the
occasion, and gifts; There are gifts wrapped in
the holiday traditional papers- They too, are
decorated with colored bows; shiny and pristine-
There's excitement; Voices we know; Some sitting quietly;
While others seem to be in the heart of it all

Our eyes will meet many times this day; 'Tis the
Season of merriment and joy-  We both know the
true st meaning of this day of celebration-
And we will not let it pass, without the thought crossing
through our minds and our hearts-
We've taken the place of the ones no longer here; Though
we could never fill their shoes; They still fill our hearts,
with memories everlasting- A sweetness; A gentle sigh-
Oh how we miss them; But they are ours forevermore; In
the clarity of yesterday

While I wrapped your gift; I gave thanks for the gift
you have given me- So precious it is; And one I will carry
with me throughout my life-
This gift I speak of came not from a box; It wasn't bought
with monies, paper or plastic- and it was wrapped in nothing but the confinements of your heart-
As I chose what to give you; I knew there was no equal that
could possibly be found in the comparison of yours to me-
So I made my choice with tenderness and the deepest of Love-

Being able to call you Sister, is a gift unequalled with anything known to man- We fought as kids, just as all
siblings do; But somewhere in the midst of it all, You
taught me to have compassion for others; Gave me a place
to rest, and a soft place to land-
While I can't make your heartaches disappear; Or shelter
you from the pains and sorrows life deals so unevenly- I can
tell you that you are Loved and you will Always be Needed-
You are the core of Goodness, in this Sisterhood divine

Take this gift Sister that I now hand you; Unwrap it with
not only an open mind but also an open heart-
Let it stand as a symbol that we both know and understand
from Where we came; Where we have been; and Where we shall go-
If you should stray; I'll gladly take the lead-
If you should tire; I'll gladly be your crutch-
If you should stumble and fall; I'll gladly lift you up-
Not only today; But everyday to come

In the true st Spirit of Christmas I give to you, My Love

There are no gifts more precious than those of unconditional love, acceptance and adoration, Lisa. Your words are beautiful and make me long to be near my own sister who, though far away in distance, is always so very near in my heart. You have a very special way of getting into the soul of your reader, and making us feel the words that you place upon the page. You sister is as blessed to have you as you are to have her life as you are to have her in yours. Funny how that works!! ;) Excellent as always!
Take care,
Sherry

Lisa this is an amazing poem and gift offering to your sister! I am in tears because I miss my sister so much, we were closer than anyone could believe possible. It's been several years she's gone, but I feel her with me everyday. She died in the month of December,and it has always made my holidays bittersweet since. May you and your sister have a blessed and beautiful Christmas!

Love
