Three Hip Chicks (and a Broad)
by Sandra S. Corona
Three hip chicks (and a broad) wanted to sing carols.
All they got in return was discord, barbed arrows.
(None carried a tune,
“Carol, Carol,” gets ‘old’ soon.
Too loud … voices boom!)
Three hip chicks (and a broad) said, “Let’s go fetch a tree.”
At city hall found one they chopped down gaily.
(Couldn’t those three see
lights strung happily--
‘twas the county’s tree?)
Three hip chicks (and a broad) saw a flame, extinguished
a tribute. For their backward ways, were distinguished.
(Folks hoard fuel and food—
some people are crude …
wastefulness is lewd.)
Three hip chicks (and a broad) thought the river frozen,
fell. People came, a dozen, none were kin … cousin.
(Rescued, gave the tree
back to the county;
lit the flame gaily.)
Three hip chicks (and a broad) didn’t ruin the day.
Everybody makes mistakes in different ways.
(Folks love attention
relish tradition.
That’s my conviction.)
Three hip chicks (a broad) make waves wherever they live.
Live life flexible, generous, of selves … do give.
