I had a talk with a tree today
Surprised by what it had to say
Many creatures make it home
What they said could fill a tome

The oldest ring of tree spoke first
With wisdom telling what is worst
"Of all that Almighty God did create
Only humanity will feed on hate"

A witty red squirrel spoke up next
"Seems humans top priority, is sex
No matter what job they are doing
Their conversation is always on screwing"

I heard a laugh come from a Raven
It said"They think sex is their heaven
That's not so bad, it's how they abuse
Each other, there's no excuse"

A younger tree ring wanted to be heard
"That's minor, it's how they mock'The Word'
If they had more respect and reverence
Their lives would begin to make some sense"

The youngest tree ring spoke up quick
"How to assimilate, that's the trick
Bias and greed bring humans to war
Take a lesson from us and fight no more"

"This tree hosts various species galore
Birds, squirrels,beetles, bugs, ants,and more
All of whom have their own special needs
Which they fulfill without guile or greed"

"So I ask you dear lady, since you asked today
Who is more closely following Creators way
You may think that we are an inferior design
Yet you have no idea of what is in God's mind"

I walked home thinking of all that was said
This soul searching certainly filled my head
Nature struggles to survive in natural ways
Humanity uses harmful methods for which it pays

"Of all that Almighty God did create
Only humanity will feed on hate"

First I had the impression that I was reading -- a Villanelle, and then I heard the sound of a Pantoum -- that kept knocking the doors of my ears as both sounds of Villanelle and Pantoum could be heard to the closing lines. Its all magical to me... A privilege to read
and learn composition and harmony of Nature.

The message throughout this magnificent composition; its
philosophic and social contents; its poetic refinement of
singing and its melodic rhythm deliver a gift to this reader of "Soul Searching With Trees".

I salute You, Sublime Poet!

Tis very true Eileen
Your last lines say it all....
Its time it all changed, and its time we all played our full roles in bringing about that sea change in our attitudes and ways

Good lines all. It's been a pissing duel since creation.
Have a Merry Christmas, Eileen, and the best New Year ever.

How utterly sad, and how utterly true, Tiger Lily. And, like you, I truly wish it weren't so.
