“If you have men who exclude any of God’s creatures

From the shelter of their compassion and pity,

You have men who will deal likewise

With their fellow men.”

St. Francis of Assisi

Many still believe that we as human beings

Are supposed to care for earth’s many creatures

But it seems that many others in our modern world

Believe land development is our most revered feature

Many of our so called representatives in Congress

Want to gut the Endangered Species Act provisions

Which have allowed many of earth’s varied animals

To avoid complete annihilation and to keep on living

This act was passed into law way back in 1973

And it has enabled both the wolf and the bald eagle

To make significant comebacks in our modern world

Just two of the many species which many consider regal

But these days developing every inch of land we can find

Seems to be this nation’s utmost penchant and desired goal

Which very sadly leaves many of these endangered species

With absolutely nowhere left in this nation that they can go

The majestic grizzly bear has been reduced to two percent

Of its former ancient natural habitat and home living range

The grey wolf is now being shot down from aircraft in Alaska

Which to an animal lover like me seems horrendously deranged

Gutting the Endangered Species Act allows more land development

And will leave the majestic panthers of Florida with nowhere left to go

Gutting the Endangered Species Act allows more toxic pesticides to be used

And too many of the animals in this country will now the Way of the Buffalo Go

If you believe that we as human beings have a moral responsibility

To care for and protect the many animals with whom we share this earth

Please take the time and the effort to contact your representatives in Congress

Enabling us to continue to regard our nonhuman neighbors with dignity and worth

Heartbreaking. A disaster, especially since no one seems to have any regard for human life, let alone our animal friends. Thank you for continuing to speak out for those who can't--or won't--speak for themselves.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

The growing trend, is a total disregard and disrespect for life, both animal and human. I don't like where things are going; not at all. Thanks for your continued effort to raise awareness amongst us.

I believe we do have a moral responsibility I often vote on such issues and write my congressman and the president. Our nature is a gift and so are the creatures that live within this nature. Thank you for speaking for our furry and feather and skin friends.

Plastic plates, burgers and chips makes us ignorant of the delicate eco-balances upon which the welfare of our beautiful blue-green planet exists and turns. Rather than just dinging the microwave then donging the garbage and chucking it out to fend for itself, we need to be brought back to the roots of WHAT life is and upon what it depends; perhaps then we would cherish it more and might foster a spirit of co-dependence and respect. Sadly, as humans at the epitome of the heights of evolution, we seem to have rather lost the plot; after all, if we cannot even tolerate our neighbour as of equitable status to ourselves, or afford him more time than we take to polish up the metal on the front drive, what hope is there that we might consider the plight of drowning polar bears and the steadily shrinking antarctic ice caps? Time to get aboard Joni's Big Yellow Taxi, folks... or the Beatles' Yellow Submarine... same thing, I guess... you selling tickets, Ed?! All proceeds to Greenpeace...

Let us pro-animalists have our day! Let us have a "field" day with our politicians, invite them to a $5000.00 dollar a flimsy paper plate picnic and put them all in the crosshairs. Wander how fast they would run, dingos biting jackals in the ass! Then put these politicians at a drop-bait station, small chunks of meat, and then feed them with M44, a device that injects sodium cyanide into the mouths of coyotes, and then confine them to steel-jaw animal leg traps while we jump in their planes and give the crosshair a new definition! If we could play this game with them just one day and let them know what it feels like to be preyed upon by the predator, perhaps new animal and land protection laws would be signed in politician scat ink, because they just had the shit scared out of them. Ed, you pen the truth of it just as it happens. Bridge Over Troubled Waters! Thanks!

Seems we're hell-bent on destruction, sorry, development!
And we go on electing the idiots who allow it to happen.
Hopefully there's lots more people like you, Ed,
asking questions of our so-called leaders.

What will it take for humanity to wake up and see what they are doing to our environment daily...I too support this Act

Another example of humanity failing to learn the way to accomodate all life and keep the environment healthy too. Modern man wants his toys to the exclusion of all else and we are paying the price for it. I signed petitions to save this act, and will continue to, but unless humanity begins to want less and love more, what we do is only a band-aid. Thanks once again for the alert in your wonderful style Ed!

I echo your sentiments and values on upholding and preserving The Endangered Species Act 1973 Ed !
It is absolutely essential that supporters of this landmark Act, lobby and petition their Senators and Congressmen to save this precious Act, and the vulnerable creatures that it lends shelter and preservation to !
And I love that St Francis of Assisi quote which precurses this plea !
