A popular writer from the Den actually "made" me do this. Photo by me.

Goddess of the Mists
She spoke to me
From the wispy mists of the river
She said
From an island perhaps
She urged me
Coaxed me
To sow something upon the virgin page
Since my muse seems to have abandoned me
I thought I could almost see her
This veiled goddess of the mists
As she touched the clouds
They turned into coloured hues of greys and blues
That painted the river too
Touched the leafless cottonwoods
And turned them golden
Beckoned to a flock of wild whistling swans
And they floated slowly against the backdrop
Of brooding snow-covered mountains
All this she did and more
And for a moment
I forgot the wars
The violence
The disasters
The endless list lost
In seemingly endless chaos
Even the pain of an impossible friendship
Was soothed
And for a short sweet while
I could write the words above
And sigh…
…and sigh

You have a gift for natural imagery, Regis. I was soothingly floated off my couch and straight into the mists with your words. The last two lines give such a feeling of relaxation...the same feeling I get after a nice soak in the hot tub. Bravo! Hugs~

Very beautiful, Regis. And the air of mystery is tantalizing. I mean are the muse and the friend the one and the same? Or is the muse some love long ago or now? Keep it private but your words say so much. Love this one very much. Wouldn't one like to be your muse with your poetic, flowing words?! Love, Meredith

As Goddess is, so Goddess does... whether ethereal or fleshly... would be nice if she were both!! But then, Sweet Man, this is no less than you deserve and if impossible friends and muses are out of reach, then Goddess Friend and Mother surely makes up for a lot! Beautiful, touching and uplifting... is her equivalent Prince Charming, him of the awakening kiss, do you think? Hmmmm... much to ponder on here... Delightful - and many blessings and richness of the supernal spiritual type to you and those you love and care for in the times ahead. LOL Kate xx

You have created such motion and depth with your words and images, Regis. The serenity of the moment you create makes the reader sigh right along with you. Your muse is far from dead and to submerge yourself in the negativity that runs rampant around us all is to veer from your appointed path and abandon your purpose. It is the strong that can feel compassion for the world and still maintain their focus on their destiny. Beautiful poetry and I tip my hat to the person who gave you that gentle nudge that prompted you to deliver this wonderful offering to us. Happy New Year!!

Only a tiny variety of muses have a widespread following. I've only counted eighteen in Britain. Goddess of the Mists manifests herself into a creatrix who lends herself to you to bring forth the poem. She is a redressed Regis model by the sophisticated movement in his hand. Regis, Goddess of the Mists is encoded in the fabric of your beautiful mind. She really is. She is very real to me. If only fleeting, she will be back to visit you. Look for her especially around the equinoxes.

In this is your treasure and your salvation, Regis, as you are living in the moment. "The sun rising out of dark water", to quote Thomas Moore. We express our deepest emotion through metaphor and this is very beautiful...
