I slept while you loved me
A dream state lost to a state of dreams
Purposefully unaware of your intention

Taken in by time
A running stream to nowhere
In love with the numbness of life

I lost myself inside of me
Delving beyond a safe return
Paying dearly for what was already mine

I slept while you loved me
And now the waking is dear

Now you are free to love in a new way, eyes wide open, heart protected by a thick coherent insulation. Lori, come back another day and tell us how it feels. Hope the one you match with is the match of interest.

Your poem reminds me of my promise to never get completely drunk. I'd rather stay awake and enjoy the next experience -- whatever it turns out to be.

A composition of extraordinary and exceptional depth and brevity Lori !
I agree with both Sherry and Carmen below in their analysis
Few indeed are those who truly know the art of loving, and only the
individual concerned can possibly metamorphose their own outlook and future, without prompting from others !
I believe you fall into this category....
I wish and pray for inner happiness and contentment for you in 2006

yep, we covered similiar ground today ... we must live and celebrate the moment and not sleep through it ... though once we realize what we had, we can still appreciate what we had even when it's gone ...

We can spend our lives waiting for the right moment. But that never comes, because today is the right moment. For it is the only time one can live. Gotta grab the time before time grabs you.
You and Jude are in tune today...

Ouch, is right! A common experience, I'm afraid. I think few know the art of loving, and knowing how to love. Very concicely and economically written, to give the reader full understanding.

It is often said that sometimes, while looking for what you most desire, you are blind to that which is right in front of you. A small poem that can fill an entile collisseum(sp.) with memories!!

Good Write,

Ouch this one is painful to read and must have undoubtably been painful to write but a valuable lesson and message to remind us all how easily love can be lost. Well done Lori.

The scars of the past often remove us from what we could have now, if only we could learn to trust, to believe. The veil of darkness shrouds our vision and we turn away from the only star that could lead us back into the light. There is comfort in that dark place for we know that we can survive there, but there is also a hollowness that can only be filled by stepping out of our protective cocoon. This is an amazing write, Lori, strong and introspective and perfect for a time that is slated for new beginnings. Happy New Year to you!
Take care,
Sherry
