How I fondly recall when my Auntie would pray back at North 17th Street on Prayer Meeting Day;
She would sing from the depths of experience past,
And her prayers were so strong that no evils could last;
In my mind I recall how she’d thank the Most High,
How she’d lift holy hands toward celestial sky;
I never knew doubts when my Auntie would pray,
And it's words such as these that I feel she would say,
“OH, THANK YOU MY FATHER for saving my soul,
& knowing your love because Heaven’s my goal;
Thank you for showing me Christ is The Way,
And now I hear angels shout ‘Oh Happy Day!’. . .
My life without you would be nothing but pain
This is why I can’t help but to praise your Grand Name!. . .
Lord you’ve brought me along such a mighty long way
You’ve blessed my distress for this much brighter day;
I watched years in my life as they’d pass one by one
I knelt down thanking God for His Marvelous Son
Keep me strong in the Lord and that all-cleansing Light
May your wings ever shield me thru long days and nights
Let me feel healing breath of your dear Holy Ghost
He is always on time when I need Him the most
As the demons would scheme to cause anguish and pain,
I’d lean on your promise; then faith I’d regain. . .”
(Yep, that might be what she’d say if today, she could pray) . . . So cling with your faith to the blood stain-soaked cross
Never pose to consider her passing a loss;
This earth is the wrong place to store up vain treasure
For my Aunt Bernice now has reward beyond measure;
She would say that no matter where devils may stalk
Just keep close to Lord Jesus in life’s narrow walk;
She knows some of her family are hurting inside
But remember her words “God’s love always abides
For our God, He shall shield you from all snares & dangers;
Just keep sharing kindness with beggars & strangers"
This world as is stands now is destined for trouble;
But just stand back & watch how your blessings can double;
Forgive all the ones who ignore Christian teaching;
And your memoirs, like Auntie’s will be ever-reaching
Far out to the lost ones who’ve heard not the story of
Jesus Christ--King of Earth, Heaven and Glory;
Those who seek out the truth in this final communion will join Auntie again in triumphant reunion.
