Nice poetic pondering my dear friend.
But the media has to blow things up.
That's the way it is and will be until the end.
I often leave my doors unlocked still today
If they want to break in they won't knock anyway
But as for going for a stroll down the block on any giving day
I don't worry because the Good Book says worrying does Not pay!
May God bless you and keep you well my dear friend.
Peace, love and blessings,
John Michael

| Sounds just about right, you never know what goes on in the neighberhood till you really look around. I live in an apt complex as of now, hopefully to find a house soon, for this really sucks. |

| I liked the biting sarcasm here, especially of the final lines, but was too often distracted with the grammatical oddities and awkward wording. For example, 'My airbag's about to out gas' ? or the usage of the word 'expense' as a verb. I liked the way 'My hung tongue slurping sound' rolls past the lips, but I'm unsure as to what that means. Lastly, are ethnicities 'crashing' in the distance or 'clashing'? Good ideas here, but might benefit from a re-write. |

| I guess you live in a great American Suburbian Subdivision, with all its inherent dangers (mostly people or dog or car!) I live in a rural area, but though I love the idea of wildlife, I have bears here, I've seen two on my property so far, that never bothered me yet. But one put an end to my bird feeder and today I just heard of a guy in Washington who lost an ear and an arm damaged to just a small Black Bear on a bike ride. Whoa! It's nice in my neighborhood too, but I better get the pepper spray! |

Life has hit the skids, Ron. If you don't think so, just ask those who are affiliated with Bellaire High School. First, the deaths of those 2 students and now, another student who shot and killed her mother. The argument has been "if you don't know your neighbors' business..... you're not deemed nosy and keep your privacy". Yet, by not knowing your neighbors, you don't know what they're capable of doing and you never know whether you're safe. Heck, Astros' pitcher, Brandon Backe's father and stepmom live on my block in Texas City and yet, on our block, someone's front door was kicked in last year, we've had things stolen from our garages in broad daylight and TCPD is on the street at my neighbor's house for either drugs or domestic issues, every week or two. This is a subdivison in which the homes range from reasonably priced to elaborate. No one is immune to violence anymore.
Take care,
Jill |

Too funny, Ron. I try not to let all the fear droppers take the pleasure out of taking a stroll or jog through my neighborhood, but they sure do seem to paint a negative picture of things. It seems that they try to make us feel that our security does not exist beyond the locked confines of our home. Life is too short for me to allow them to spoil the beauty that exists outside my door. Cool write!
Take care,

Ron, I can remember visiting my father in Chicago, and behind his front door was a gun and a baseball bat. He insisted I take the spoke wheels off my car and store them in the house until my husband and I were ready to leave. I thought at the time...I do NOT want to ever live like this. And he was in a good family neighborhood too. In Phoenix, there are home invasions, drive by shootings, gangs, and for fun, kids and gangs shoot cars on the highway. It doesn't matter whether an upscale neighborhood or the slums...it is happening everywhere.
A very good poem to signify the times...and a sad commentary on "what is".
