Oh Lord, please carry me down the river,
And help me to learn along the way,
To cherish all the treasures that I'll find there,
And to never forsake even a single day.
Help me to avoid the misconceptions,
That my mind is so capable of,
And help me to keep an open mind,
About living, and giving, and love.
Let me live to serve all others,
For it is there that peace truly begins,
And please let me be forgiving,
Of those in my life and their sins.
May I forever be humble,
For it took me many years,
To overcome the haughtiness of my youth,
Which left many who loved me in tears.
But most of all, Lord,
Please forgive me,
For the sins that have scarred my soul,
For your forgiveness can only free me,
As I wither and grow old.
Oh this life is a royal treasure,
As the river carries us gently through,
And we negotiate every obstacle,
As we try to find our way home to you.
