I work in a building that’s connected to a credit union.
For over a week, a sign has been posted stating that the Credit Union will be closed today in observance of the holiday.
A woman stops her Jeep, hops out of the car and reaches the door.
She gives the door a confident tug, knowing that the bank will be open
But it’s not.
I approach as she storms back to her car, clutching deposit slips, checks and stuff…
I hear her mumbling under her breath, and these are the words that I hear:
“Protest…He was a radical, not a patriot!”
I shake my head because I feel so sorry for her ignorance and apparently she cannot read due to the fact that she pulled on the front door in spite of the large sign posted on it.
I looked back at her
Her eyes were downcast
Possibly out of shame.
Radical is defined as:
“Markedly new or introducing radical change.”
A patriot is:
“One who loves and defends his or her country.”
Is wanting a non-violent solution to a problem that divides a country in half…radical?
Is wanting a non-violent solution to a problem that divides a country in half the wish of a patriot?
She was probably at the bank this morning due to a day off from her job in remembrance of Dr. King.
tugging on a door, trying to get in…is that not what many people of color had to do literally and physically as the Jim Crow laws and racism spread like a cancer throughout the masses – thus creating a dark memory of our not so distant past?
I was not angry at her
I felt sorry for her.
Don’t make this holiday another reason to hate a man who wanted nothing more but to unite the masses in brotherhood and fellowship at the expense of the blood, sweat and tears that were shed and will be shed for freedom.
In brotherhood and Love and through Christ I will pray for all of us – one family under God.
Amen Tyrone! Indeed - "... don’t make this holiday another reason to hate a man who wanted nothing more but to unite the masses in brotherhood and fellowship at the expense of the blood, sweat and tears that were shed and will be shed for freedom. ..." Powerful statement and profound write!
Praise be to God my friend for the lord is good and people will soon change rom their wicked ways or die in that state. I too don't hate people but as a christian i do feel sorry for them and hope that they come to their senses soon before the Lord comes back or he is soon to come my friend. God bless and keep you in all your endeavours.
