My Heart Lies Over The Ocean

Did the world hold only heartache for her?
She wondered this often.
She would allow herself to believe in love
...just for this “one last time”
one time too many, it seemed.
Each time her heart was lifted by the promise of love.
You know, the love that is true .
But each time she came close to believing in the promises
love burned and crashed, leaving her less able to believe.
Darkness falls upon her day.
A day full of phone calls, work to be done and bills to pay.
She stumbles home with a work-weary mind
and a sore and heavy heart
to a lonely apartment, full of echoing sadness.
Sagging down on her living room couch,
she wonders if life will continue in this rut she has made.
Can she ever break free of this never ending cycle
of men who lie, men who cheat and men who leave.
Numbly she wonders if life is worth the effort.
Can she seriously wake up to many more of these kind of days.
She stumbles to the kitchen, throws in a “lean cuisine” in the microwave.
Showers and changes into her PJ’s. Gathers her “gourmet meal” up along
with a 20 oz bottle of diet coke and eats in front of the T.V., as usual.
Now she lays herself down to sleep.
As she slips off into dreamland,
she prays to the Lord, her soul to keep....
and dreams of the man she is waiting for.
In the morning, she wakes up and finds herself
back in her empty lonely apartment.

|Mournful and sad write but one we all feel now and then throughout our lifes, but there is hope and there is someone for everyone and when the morning comes when the poem ends about looking at the face sleeping beside you then you will be glad you waited.
Pretty girl in the picture as well, is it you?

|How wonderful to read your work again. This unfortunately can apply to so many women. It is heartbraking, and poingnet. Would that I could heal all those hearts and make them see that love of self is the most important love we can find.
Thank you for all of us.

It's so important to get and have meaning in ones life. Your imagery is always so in tune with reality. Sad but beautiful write, my friend.

|You expound the reality of modern day living sadly !
There are few good men and women left in this material world anymore
All values and perspectives of decency, honesty and trust have been terminally eroded, leaving a vacuum of hpolessness and despair for our children

|Celtic, this is an exceptional capture of the reality so many women and men too, face today. I know at least five young men mid twenties of friends and family, that have no girl and no prospect of one.The same on the female side, and they all say the same thing, theres no one that wants anything but sex anymore, and they can have that with anyone. It's so sad, I pray it changes for the youth in this generation, and soon. Thanks for sharing.....Eileen|

|This touches deeply. You bring the reader into the soul of your character with great descriptions of emotions and feelings. You have created the atmosphere of a situtation that tugs at the heart and leaves the reader hoping the door is about to open......:-)|
