A Better Time; A Better Place

Just a handful of sand; Funneling
through my loosely gripped fingers-
Alot like life. I felt each grain, slipping
carelessly away-
Plaqued with emotions; I bowed my head.
Turned from the breaking tide-
Hurried my mind to a better time;
A better place

In an open meadow of wildflowers; Pausing
to enjoy their beauty-
Swaying back and forth in a warm Spring
breeze; Basking in scents of honeysuckle
and wild lavender; Melting in the contrasts
of the freshly painted roses-
Sadness overcame me; As I knew the
Summer heat would return this glorious
field to a prickly patch of weeds-
I bowed my head; Closed my eyes to the
inevitability of change-
Hurried my mind to a better time;
A better place

In the shade of the large oak; I sat
with the ancient scholars; Drinking from their
fountains of knowledge; Applying myself in ways
I'd never done before; Allowing more than the basic
colors; The simplest verses; The generics of this
round flat world to feed my hunger-
Bound by confusion; Suddenly I could no longer
understand their archaic tongues-
I bowed my head; Slammed the
door of lost wisdom behind me-
Hurried my mind to a better time;
A better place

Looking into a sunrise; Standing high
above the world- Beholding this divine vision
of hope-
I bowed my head in prayer of recieving the Knowledge;
Strength; Courage and Faith I will need
to last me a lifetime-
For without them; There will be no better time;
Nor better place

Well done, my friend. The imagery is beautiful, the rhythm is devine and it touches both the heart and mind.

Sometimes it seems so difficult to swallow the bitter taste of the moment and so we turn out thoughts to a better time in order to relieve ourself of that which sours our day. Truth being as it is, we learn that we must live in the today and understand that what is past, though perhaps a better time, is not our current reality. Faith and belief will pull us through this most difficult of times and we will once again rest in the beauty of the day. Profound message and an exquisite write, Lisa. As always it is a pleasure to read one of your wonderful poems.
Take care,
Sherry
