" That's When Those Funny, Familiar, Forgotten Feelings

Start Walking All Over Me "....Tom Jones

..........................................................................

I went back to my old stomping ground

The scenes of my childhood and preparatory years

Searching amongst the debris and rubble of fractured and forgotten dreams

For a discernible link that coupled the past with the present

Moving like a detached phantom from one haunted room to another

Symbols of a bygone era clinging for life like lichens on a cliff edge

Long since gone is the crescendo and din of the crowded and merry playground

Buried beneath an avalanche of devastating perspectives and sea change circumstances

I look around to see if I can catch a glimpse of your shadow

Or a trace of your bewitching smile

And the twinkling of your magic eyes, like diamonds in the sea

Recalling those marvellous promises you gave me from your loving heart

The way I clung to the atmospheric dreams you spun

Kindled as I was to the core, by the hope of what was to come

I wandered along the beach cutting a solitary figure

A swooping tern took the bare look of me

As I came across the rickety beach hut, where we changed before we swum

I spied our initials carved within a faded heart

The remnants of a love that shook the world

And I sighed inside, because there's still a lasting vestige within

That eclipses time and change forever more

A wondrful memoir which made me recall a similar time. I think we carry vestiges of those we truly loved, in our hearts forever. they are imprinted and sealed there. Beautiful poetry Peter!Bravo!

AH...I do know this feeling. In a meadow not too far away from me in the San Isabel National Forest of Colorado there are two aspen trees that have my intitials carved in a heart entwined with the memories of another! I do go back from time to time and reminisce, that monogrammed heart faded to old gray and barely visible. The picnic table that was sitting under one of those old aspen trees also had my initials carved with anothers. That table is long gone, but the memories linger. The things we do for love! I love this Old Ways write, Peter. Those waffle stomper tracks in the sand speak volumes. Been there, done that.
