Like a dimmer switch,
daylight is slowly being turned up
and five thirty’s blackness is fading.
My spirits lift when I see bare trees
against a light gray sky.
I savor and appreciate each millisecond
added to afternoons.
Trees hold up their limbs
as if in praise and renewal.
It is almost time for days to push into night
and for lightening bugs to permeate the blackness
when warm evenings arrive.

i really empathize with this poem ... i walk the beach everyday ... toward the end of December the sun sets around 4:30 and the night apporaches rapidly ... as the winter solstice rescinds, each day gets a little brighter and reminds me that we're a little closer to the wamth and light of spring ...

very nicely penned!

L o v e i t !! That oh-so-fleeting point at which a day pauses
before fading into night is worth. . .words fail me. I tilt the blinds to make the most of it. Pause to savor! Thank you for
this life-affirming beauty. Keep 'em comin'!! 'Pea' <3

Great descriptive writing that puts the reader into the mind of the writer to temporarily see what she sees.

I'm with you....as the days lengthen and the promise of Spring is in the air, my spirits begin to pick up - my own internal "dimmer switch" I suppose. Beautifully written piece.
