“Animals are such agreeable friends;

They ask no questions,

They pass no criticisms.”

George Eliot

This is the tale of a heroic male dog

And the tale of a frightened female cat

He has been protecting her with his life

There is absolutely no doubt about that

These two bonded ‘left behind’ animals

Were recently discovered in New Orleans

After having spent many months together

On desolate neighborhood streets quite mean

This dog has been leading this tiny feline to food

He has been guarding her from dangers of all kind

He’s been her Knight in Furry Armor and her Hero

His charge is a very terrified creature - that is blind

It took the people who found these two bonded pets

A long time to convince this dog his charge was safe

He was willing to die defending his blind feline friend

And I wonder how many of us would have been as brave

It is not yet known by rescuers at this point in time

If this dog and this cat had lived with the same human

Or if this Knight in Furry Armor had actually adopted her

After finding her hiding in fear from packs of dogs and men

A national search effort has just now been initiated and launched

To find the owner or owners of these two incredible ‘left behinds’

Regardless of the outcome of this search they should remain together

This Heroic Knight in Furry Armor and His Tiny Sweet Maiden Blind

In all my years of observing earth’s diverse creatures

I’ve found enormous compassion among its many animals

And I very sadly believe that they very often put us to shame

Yet we humans are supposed to be the caretakers of them all

I think this is an absolutely beautiful poem, Ed. I pray that they will be homed together so that he can continue to care for her.

God bless you, Ed. Where would we be without you and your honesty and total compassionate love for ALL God's creatures. You will be my friend for ever. Pauline UK

'Yet we humans are supposed to be the caretakers of them all' how the original biblical 'compassionate care' became DOMINION OVER, i have yet to understand, King James did us, and our critter friends no favor when they garbled that one

have they found a home?

Brilliantly done Ed. I love this poem, and now I'm going off to hug my dog and her favourite cat (unless they're curled up together asleep, in which case I won't wake them).

I had a pair like that. Kept them for over 20 years. They were not only protective of each other, but if any one was going to harm me, they would have died protecting me. Yes, animals put us to shame.

As Bernice King said at her mother Coretta Scott King's homegoing service, mankind (generalist noun) was meant to have dominion over creation. Now creation has to tell us, both in plant and animal and mineral form, that we are all negligent by the way we have treated this gift planet called Earth.

Lovely write Bro. Ed. And my grandson LOVES the Animal Planet channel. (Guess who I think of everytime I see the featured creatures?) (smile)

We shun our responsibilities for the creatures of the earth and no man/woman has the heart of a loyal dog or cat...that is the honest truth! There is so much we could learn from animals if we could dump our egos long enough to understand that we are not superior to the beasts, simply a brother or sister to them. This is a heartwarming story, Ed and though it has left me with tears streaming down my cheeks, I am moved by this true-life Knight and his sweet kitty who he defends with his life.

Take care,

Sherry

This is a very beatiful story Ed - I cannot add much to Peter's comment except I believe they both had the same owner and he took care of this 'lil one as a big brothr would look after a 'lil sister in a disaster. It stirs up my fatih in God, as this is what our big brother 'Jesus' does, he looks after us little ones and He wants us to do the same for others. This is what it is all about, don't you see? The answers we seek. We can find them in the animals. I have one such dog. I think I was given this dog to care for for a special reason; for as you say, I have learned much about life from this 'lil' animal, only 10#. I feel touched as by an angel this very day.

This is such a precious, precious story, movingly depicted--mankind could learn something here. (And WE call animals "dumb".) This is a profoundly written tribute that reminds me that chivalry is not dead. Beautiful.

It just shows you Ed, that animals can teach us a lesson or two about chivalry and honour, this is a magnificent tale of looking after the weak and infirm.
It should inspire us all to greater heights of Love and Compassion in our own human world !
Love the picture, and accompanying quote !
