My Wings

As I wrote this .in my mind I heard Paul Simons tune "Kathy's Song". so I decided to try it. His melody, my words and voice.;-)

~*~

I watched the
twilight fade away
then awoke to
a bright new day
but there wasn't
a trace of me
I left myself
in anonymity

Tried seeing
with eyes anew
nothing was
pleasing to my view
all I could see
was banality
refuse waves on
a restless sea

My ship had left
so long  ago
I couldn't catch it
I was too slow
now I'm running
against the tide
all that's left is
my damaged pride

The echoes of
a distant train
seem to be my
haunting refrain
with the wind I
would love to fly
there but for a
pair of wings go I

Enchanting, Eilleen. And thank you for sharing your voice as well. I have been tempted to sing one of my songs, but I don't want to fry my visitors' motherboards. :-) Fortunately, your voice is pleasant and so we have no such problems. ~~Nordette

Very pretty, Eileen...All we need to fly is the "desire" to do so and the "belief" that we can. Very nice work.

Take care,

Sherry

Eileen! "There but for a pair of wings go I??" You kiddin?? Just take the harp and you're away with that Dove... beautiful rendition of a tear-jerking song that is just sooooo hard to sing because of its minor keys... and you have done it acapella. My hat's off to you on all counts. Words and music are a perfect, haunting match. Bless you and thank you. Kate xx

Beautiful lyrics but I could not hear the music. This was really a smooth poem, that brings my mind back to the 30's and forties when the gifted writers of those days wrote such beautiful lyrics for the songs they wrote.

Seems of late you have been digging much deeper into yourself and your poetry is beginning to reflect that and reflect it good. Clap. Clap.
