silent nocturnal romances
skip stones across ponds,
the deafening fizz strikes
at the roots of pain.
two sentinels stand staunchly
near degraded uranium, their task
not easy as planes growl above,
stars deep as ice picks blink.
friendship as deep as heart murmurs
grasps souls during night’s shouting
hour, fear permeates blankets held
over mouths protesting.
no lounging now, if the evil
persists we’ll have to kill it,
finding the guts finally to learn
change is coming.
