Just One Day to Be Mine

To My Valentine
He was so sweet and kind
but now he is lost
Will he ever be touched?

Every where I go,
Every where I see
the shininess of you
a glimpse of you once again
it will never end
so I must write it down.

It keeps happening
it's true
(just ask my daughter)
I am always running into who I think is you.

It's no surprise
maybe because there were no lies
if there were
I knew naught
and you were never caught.

I see you in others
blonde and tall
thinking then they must be your brothers
But once they turn around
I am so sad; it's not you but some other
one to greet
another one to meet.

The short times I spent with him
reminding me of you
not fair to him
making me think of you.

But I have missed
the friendship so true
the love you gave me when I was so blue.

A better word for joy
I cannot find
wishing you were here to soothe the blues away
wishing you were here to steer the madness away.

Your bright day
in my darkness of night
You shine a light so brightly
I feel so lightly serene and at peace.

So dear to me that you are
that I see you in person
up close
reflecting in others
Oh, Howie, you have so many brothers!

I see them from afar
inside exclaiming, "it's you!"
only to discover
with a turn of the head
that it's another
not you.

My worn out but true Valentine to you is this:
I must really need to see you,
talk to you and oh, how I miss
the sincerity, the mountain air freshness of bliss
that you always bring
cleaning the cobwebs of dust from my mind

You could almost bring me back from the dead
with your loving and truthful ways
It pays
to stay in touch
with one such as you

I would pay to have a gentle touch
from you
but that is too much to ask
and how crazy it sounds
to pay for your mercy and your kindness
that abounds.

You have been my cheerleader through the years
You have asked nothing of me
as you patiently would wipe away
each and every tear
and calm again my anxiety ridden fear.

Always calming through the years
I have not much to offer
What have I ever given you anything
really?
Grief and sad stories?
No tales of gorious glories
to share with you.

Have I ever listened to you
in the past?
Has it always been about me
and not you?

Oh, please forgive me
if that is true .
I was so in love with you.
Blind and ignorant
couldn't see beyond
the day
and I lost you.

A pure love
yours or mine
I cannot see above the blue
though I see
the clarity of it all
I am so afraid that I will fall.

So my ode and my Valentine to you this is
everlasting youth and truth
missing you desperately
holding down the despair
of never finding you there.

Just one day
to play?
Just one day
to hold?
Just one day
to be mine?
Just one day to be yours
and inhale one last time
your fresh, loving rhyme?
Do you have any time?

I miss the friendship that once was so true. I relate to this stanza so well and have learned my friend that people are only with us for a season. When our time is up with them it is up and only true friendships from the heart last. I will never leave a friend unless they leave me or we are going in opposite directions. Excellent, well expressed and an enjoyable, heartfelt read.
