Isle of Skye

~Isle of Skye~

Mesolithic hunter-gatherers

Occupants rock-sheltered

Famine & clearances the latter

Depleted populace no census

Settlements now fossilized treasures;

Sheltered coves, rows of pink

Craggy ranged mountains

Green fertile hills of Sleat

Nature trails – ash, birch & hazel

Carpets of fern, fresh-watered streams;

Whitewashed cottages beneath Skye Bridge

Unspoiled coastline – scenic boat trip

Views of the lochs situated on a shoreline’s edge

White foaming waves breaking over rocks

Feast of images – memorable experience;

All roads lead to roam

Weather sunshine or fowl whether

A distinct, individual atmosphere

Ancient land, resonating heritage

Last Mallaig of your journey, a golden glimmer.

The Hebrides has some of the finest and most unspoilt beaches in the world, not to mention the utter beauty of the natural scenery, which has led to them being described as on the edge of heaven !

"All roads lead to roam" Love that. Loved the whole poem. A bit of saddness to it, although it is not a sad piece, wonder why that is? Very good.
