Funny Carpet, Serious Magic

The moon can hear.  Did you know?
No, I mean hear.   Glisten must be G
plus listen.  Let me tell you how I know.

A stubby, between-story roof  jutted
over the front porch of a house
my mother threatened my father
with life or death if he didn't agree
to buy.   The room she assigned
to me with the stipulation that things
be kept her way provided a portal,
as it turned out.  The window beside
the bed could be nudged into opening
with barely a sound so I could squeeze
pajamaed skin and bone through
when the house grew silent.  The roof
was half-melted, having been baked
by a put-out sun. It dug into my thighs
and butt, but it was all that was keeping me
from sliding.   I was hanging on tight
when I got a shock.  Pinned to the sky
was a circle too big and beautiful
to be real. At first, I decided an angel
had cut it out of paper she made herself.
It wasn't angel colored.  More silver
with shades of gray.  As the summer
wore on, gold began to shimmer
in unexpected ways.  The paper turned
to the sad but peacefully waiting face
of a woman like none I had known.
Talk to me, she crooned.  I don't tell.
You will feel better, I promise.
I was so startled, I almost fell.
But I could see I had a friend.  Blue
when I started to confide,  her silver
rubbed off.  Even a little of her gold.

Do not believe a mere mortal.  Climb
a ladder if you have to, but get close
enough to really look.  If you listen,
she will.  Just be very, very still.

Marvelous, Phyllis - and I believe she truly does. This brought back many pleasant childhood memories for me when I would sneak up to our musty old attic with my dog and we would both marvel at her through our tiny window to the galaxy.

Nothing equals the love of fantasy of a child. This would simply be marvelous illustrated and given to your grandchildren, Pea. You should think about doing a small story book for them. It would be one of the most important legacies you could leave to them. "Read me a story, grandma," I can hear them say to you, Pea! Destined to become a fantasy classic collectible from the lovely poetess Pea.

I concur with the board completely Pea !
This is simply enchanting and bewitching, and hurled me back to the innocent days of childhood, and the unimaginable workings of the imagination
I could also vizualize sitting on that roof conducting a private conversation with the Man in the Moon !

Pea,

You had me from the git go and had me entranced by your storytelling poetic ability. I became a kid again, wishing I had been there with you--stunning, magical work. Thank you! Saving this one, oh, yes, to travel when life is getting me down.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Simply magical write here, Phylis, this is one of your best and one of the best I think i have read capturing the soul, heart and imagination of a child's mind. It made me want to be sitting there on that roof with the child looking at the moon and talking to the fairy as well. Great poem and the graphic compliments rather nicely.

This is beautiful and magical. It brought me back to when I was a young girl and believed in wishes and falling stars - I wanted to go back to that place. This is lovely beyond words, I've saved it to read again and again. Thank you for this.
