Buddy the cat has now started

A pet writing epidemic in our household.

Turbo, our wolf dog from New Mexico,

Who truly loves our little Chihuahua,

Has demanded that his tale be told.

So I now present,

Turboís Western Poem:

- Down Mexico Way -

Me and the old flea bit Mangy Gang

Had been way up north in Kittyville

Cheatin at cards in the Catnip Saloon

But that Sheriff Buddy was a real pill

Two of my partners are now in his jail

And Tater he high tailed it out of town

So I lit out of there real quick like myself

Headed down to old Mexico to scout around

I figured I could stir up another poker game

Or rustle me some cattle or a few small sheep

But I was gettin real hungry once again amigos

And this tired old outlaw really needed some sleep

But when I stumbled into this tiny Mexican village

And walked into the cantina I spotted a real cutey

I soon learned that her name was Chica Blanca

And I have to tell ya she is one hot Mexican beauty

Oh how lovely she smelled so fresh from the kitchen

So after she fed me I asked her to walk in the moonlight

And by the time the hot desert sun was once again rising

This lovely senorita had truly filled my old heart with delight

And bein a desperado so long I ainít gettin' no younger
So Iíve decided to settle down here and make it my home
And freedom oh freedom well that's just some dogs howlin'
My old jail was walkin through this big old world all alone

Me and my Chica Blanca are now gettin hitched

This old mutt has finally come to his mangy senses

The two of us are gonna start up our own little rancho

And sleep out under the stars with no barbed wire fences

Iím gonna let this little girl love me

Before it gets much much too late

And for more of her real spicy enchiladas

This hungry old desperado can hardly wait

South of the border - down Mexico way

Thatís where I fell in love

When my Chica Blanca Ė fed me one day

- The End -

'Oh how lovely she smelled so fresh from the kitchen' ah, the old saw IS true, man or beast!! but, then I knew that... i would like to think these critters love me for myself, but hah, it is because i look like a sack lunch. Enjoyed the read, the 4th graders are so pleased to read your personal comments for several of the haiku.

I just love New Mexico, it's my kinda place,Alamogordo is absolutely beautiful and tranquil, with some of the finest scenenery and places of interest in the land !
I'm sure your new book will be a winner, knowing the quality of your craftsmanship, humour, and dedication to the cause !
The picture sums it up, and gives you a welcome break from our sometimes grim reality !
