You Don’t Know How…

to love a man, those friggin’
soaps you watch at noon might look
cool to high school chicks,
dry-humpin’ after prom, but

to love a man takes
something else, some easy sway
to a dance band, some intelligent
moment conjured up in math class
or behind the stands during
a Friday night football game.

to love a man takes daring
and a willing mouth, not so
damn much tongue wagging
about other men, other shopping
sprees you walked through
at the mall.

to love a man takes
honor, passion and a bit
of chocolate syrup splashed
on your breasts, a whole
night to rage and be
ravaged on the bed
of your dad’s truck.
