My brother sent me this picture last night and it brought up such great memories of my Acadain ancestors that I knew I had to share

Perry Roots

These are the Perry family roots that make me proud

Where it all began you might say

My grandmother and grandfather

My Dad in a long ago day

Just simple hard working farmers

Who tilled the red Prince Edward Island soil

A plucked chicken for Sunday dinner

To celebrate a whole week’s toil

No fancy cars or tractors then, just horse and buggy and plows

No electricity just the light of the kerosene lamp

No TV, no radio, sometimes fiddlers and guitars in the kitchen

Once all the work was done and the winter came cold and damp

In that same year they said goodbye

As their son went off to war

Prayed and hoped as each day passed

That he’d return once more

He met a Newfoundland lass along the way

Who stole his heart and soul it's true

Her name was Edna Dobbin

Soon at the alter they said I do

He returned to raise nine children

Four daughters and five sons his legacy

Now there are many generations to follow

To grow and make strong the family tree

Though my Dad and Mom are gone now

Grandparents, only vague memories remain

Along with a few old black and white photos

That I still like to look at now and again

They remind me of the sacrifices made on our behalf

For all I have to day we breathe a grateful sigh

They paved the way for what we all are

Someday again we’ll see them by and by

Oh this is so fine, Felix. When we feel we as strangers on this earth these are the memories that anchor us, however alone we may be.
Theirs was a hard life but a rich one. So many of us today would be white-knuckled having to endure the struggles they faced every day.
Thank you...

Beautiful testimony to your Acadian heritage, Felix; very well done! We should all be proud of where we come from; it's what makes us great!

Felix,
We tend to forget from where we came, but the prints are proof we are embedded deep within the forest.
Our roots are most important, to who we are, and how we came to be.

In the last two weeks, I have probably viewed at the least, 10,000 photos of people that I don't know personally, but each photo I look at, I know is somebody's ancestor, which gives each one their own novel story.
In gathering photos for my book, I knew that I would be just overflowed with incoming mail, but that was a choice I made openly. It's been quite a dramatic experience to say the least. I've grinned, laughed, been stunned, and cried. Oh how I've cried at some of the scenes I've been sent.

We must cherish, and nourish our roots Felix, with the same amount of pride and concern, that the ones before us gave to our existence, otherwise, we will lose ourselves in the underbrush.

Thank You for sharing this with us.
