Hello my darling, hope you get this letter

arrived today, sore, exhausted, heart heavy

330 of us here now with more on the way.

Great group from every state imagined

tall, short, white, black, yellow and red

all wanting to be back home so bad.

Rainbow of humanity wasting away.

Dreaming of soft bed, back is rough

red from straw.  Would love a cot.

Thoughts of fine restaurants taunt my stomach

no dining room here, just  wood plates and stools.

Marriott or Best Western nowhere to be found

this is the only place around,  accommodations suck.

Our hosts have some manors to learn

no pleasant words said, no complimentary drinks

water brown as the Mississippi, oh so pleasing

to the eye. Flavor of sulfur was no surprise.

Thoughts and dreams of family smiles

are safely hidden. Attitude Marine tough.

Imagined my brother in the yard yesterday

jumping, climbing the monkey bars carefree.

Image broken and lost, guard kicked my back.

Hope to write soon, miss your sweet glowing

smile and soft gentle hands on my face.

Your loving husband, Camp 37, Hanoi

Rasinbow of humanity wasting away...

I loved that line. Wish it wasn't so true.
