It's evening
The sun has set
I missed the beauty
It left
In memories behind
The day was hot
Now I feel
A gentle cool breeze
Clouds move slowly above
I hear the gentle coos
Of A Dove
Coo, coo, cooing all alone.

She's perched on a roof
Across from where
I am at
Coo, coo she gently calls
Is she lonely?
Calling for her mate
Or a mate
Coo, coo, she repeats
Several lonely calls.

Sadden I am by her lonely sound
Wondering
If lonely she'll spend
Her night
As I walk hand in hand
With the soul mate
Of decades and more
I wish to come
Coo, coo A Dove
Cooing alone.

Doves love to coo, I had a ring tailed dove for several years. Your poem captures the haunting sound with the lonesome notes, well done William. Excellent metaphor...

The Dove mates for life. This little Dove is either a newby or one whose mate has fallen prey to some fate. I watch the Doves. Here we have the Ringed-neck ones. They are more dedicated than humans to their mate. Perhaps the Dove is here to tell us what we forgot about love.
Beautiful poem Bill.
