" The Vows of the Knights of the Round Table "

"To reverence the King, as if he were

His conscience, and his conscience as his King,

To break the heathen and uphold the Christ,

To ride abroad redressing human wrongs,

To speak no slander, no, nor listen to it,

To honor his own word as if his God's,

To lead sweet lives in purest chastity,

To love one maiden only, cleave to her,

And worship her by years of noble deeds."

Sir Lancelot, First Knight of the Round Table

and the right hand of King Arthur

gentleness, courtesy, and courage

were your trademark virtues

that set you apart from other men

you were the greatest fighter and swordsman of all England's knights

you were raised and taught

by Vivien the Lady of the Lake

and your star rose to become

history's greatest knight

winning the heart and the favors of Queen Guinevere

fearless in battle, valiant and brave

your noble chivalry was unsurpassed

and your unswerving loyalty to your King and fellow knights

made you the benchmark for all others to follow

in the Quest for the Holy Grail

you became a legend in your own lifetime

an impossible act to follow

you were undoubtedly the best

and your gifted son Sir Galahad

upheld your outstanding memory

and the burning and all consuming love

Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere shared

has stood the test of time
