This is a poem about the mine explosion in West Virginia. This event affected me as well as others.

A Miners Story
To the miner who survived the mine exlposion in WV....

In the cold,damp,darkness
you are trapped alone.
The events above you
are now unknown.
You hunker down
thinking your life is done.
Not knowing it has only-
really begun.
You wrote little letters
for your loved ones to keep,
and put them in your lunch pail
and tried to sleep.
Here we are now-
it's been 41 hours.
The bells are ringing
up on the church towers.
You are alive!
All shout and cry,
and thanking God for not
letting you die.
You come out of there,
maybe a new man-
but with a scar on your heart
from where it began.
The blast,the isolation,
the loss of a friend-
the fear of not knowing
if your own life will end.
Now here you are,
alive and well.
It's a story of courage
you could be proud to tell.
Thank God for miracles...
I thanked him too.
I was praying so hard.
I don't even know you.
The rest of the country was praying too.
For your safe return...
May God bless you.

Tina,

It affected all of us, especially when the media erronously reported that they were alive...when only one survived. Heartfelt, moving tribute, very well penned.

((((HUGS)))) and love, Karla.

Welcome to Author's Den, you're among friends.

Can you imagine what it was like for this feller, a story of courage and encouragement...
