"Here, have half."

I remember growing up –
My best friend and I would get together;
One of us would have some candy
And say to the other: “Here, have half.”
It was two-for-a-penny candy
And it went pretty quick,
But it tasted good and sharing made it better.

Now, when a friend and I get together,
If one of us has a hurting heart
Because Life flew overhead
And pooped on either of our heads;
Or if a person’s soul is singing a song
About a bouquet of blessings received,
One of us will say to the other “Here, have half.”
It tastes good, and sharing makes everything better.

Ah, if only that were true, Robert. It is true enough that having a friend who can help you over the rough spots is a help, however, it is very difficult going it alone. Very nice poetry.
