Loved the poem, even though we must admit that we do love lots of rap-songs and admire lots of rap-artists. However, skillfully penned!

| The sad truth, Peter, is there will be no line, here or anywhere , drawn in the sand, we're way past stifling the amoral goal, of an enemy that captures unwitting souls, the best the only thing we can do, is to speak the truth, and just like you, have the courage and the sense, to at least tell the happenstence, of what were becoming, and hopefully incite, another crusader to get his feet wet, in proclaiming the truth and risk making the call; that if we don't stand for something , for anything, and everything evil, we're doomed to fall. A fantastic write Peter. Even Bill Cosby is maligned by his own people for trying to make these points you have made.I can't blanket all of rap etc as crap, but I will say 90 percent of it is and those loud derogatory foul mouth ones that we are made to hear whether we like it or not only turn us against all of it!Well doenPeter!

Glad you brought up this topic, Peter...naturally, I agree with you. Was it Wilhelm Busch who wrote something to the effect that music wouldn't be so bad if it weren't too often just noise?
If it were only noise! but the message...dangerous stuff...so influential.
Well done!

| Way back when rock and roll started, the religious zealots lashed out and condemned it without first even giving it a chance, much like some do with music still nowadays...I realize RAP seems to be violent and subversive, but when Elvis wiggled his hips, parents and such thought it to be TOO sexual...look how far we have progressed since then, right back to where we started...Ed |

Music is beautiy, beat and unison... harmony. It's passion and emotions and tells a story...if in orchestral form we detect the clash of symbols as thunderclaps and the drum is a marching cadense...it's all synchronized beauty in musical rhythm with historic bachground. RAP is noise.
I love your verse. It sure makes us come together to protest our passions in music. That's a good thing Peter!

I'm sure there are many who agree wholeheartedly with these sentiments. I don't like rap for many of the reasons you've stated here. I wish people like Eminem who has so much talent would better employ this talent. Well written Peter.

Peter,
I tend to agree with Jerry on this: messages aren't hidden. They slap you upside the ear...and on the face. I don't call it music, I call it noise. Demeaning, vulgar noise. Don't know how to stop it, though...can't escape it when some yo-yo sits outside in his car or in his house and B L A R E S it for all to hear...

| Oh, their messages of hate are certainly not hidden, they are out front and in your face. I agree that Rap is a call to arms and racist to the extreme. Don't know what senator you are speaking of, but pleaee, Peter, don't hold your breath until that line in the sand is drawn. |
