I did it just the once
Without thinking I thought
if I asked Him to his face
To His face
He could not refuse.
“Please. Save me.”

He told me
what to do
Who to become
And remain.
And I did it.
Without question or filter I breathed Him in
I purged till there was emptiness ‘tween bone and skin
I told Him about the blackness;
The fear I’ll die alone
He told me that he could not fill me
My time had not yet come.

I told Him I did not understand
Why it mattered,
These wicked rules.
He answered me with silence
Is He even there
Am I a fool?
