" "The course of true love never did run smooth". .......William Shakespeare

I'll never fall in love again

for I don't want to feel the ache

of a broken heart ever again

and I don't want to see falling stars at night

or make wishes on the magical moon no more

cuz my heart has been broken so many times

leaving me all tender and hurt  inside

and all my rainbows are weeping in the sky

for my precious dreams

have been shattered like glass

with all my whispered secrets

dissolved like melting snow

for my golden sunsets

have been turned to blue

and the world has stopped

turning and revolving for me

and I just can't understand

why this heart of mine

still beats for you

Emotions change so rapidly in the soul. But the ones we nourish most are the ones that direct our thoughts, words, and actions. Love does test the character of the heart. But it is the heart that carries the final balancing of Love. The ache here is obvious. The longing palpable. True love is NEVER forgotten in the memory of who we are, no matter how distant or near it may seem. :)

Well we do seem to think of love as spectacular emotions and heroic acts for the beloved! The best love relationships are built up like a fine lacquer finish and many accumulated layers of the heart, Peter. The roots of the deepest love die in the heart if not tenderly cherished. You did Jerry's challenge well!

Been there and done that too many times in my life Peter. Just a horrid desert to be stuck in without water. This dredged up a lot of old memories.
I believe it took guts to write this.

This is just heartbreaking, but excellent for the challenge (why did we not think of something like that?). A life without love, without the prospect of love, a gutwrenching thought..

...I'm not aware of the challenge, Peter, but you are so adept with the flourish of your pen, and the purity of your heart, that I know not, how any could come away after reading it...and NOT want to...go fall in love! how can one be alive, if one is averse to the truth of joy and sorrow, pain and release? No matter, what the challenge, you have triumphed! Bon vivant, mon ami! love ~ rhonda

Oh Peter
There is no fun in life without the shooting stars and broken rainbows.
I'd rather see a broken rainbow than no raninbow at all

I'm not familiar with Jerry's challenge (will catch up later) but your poem is like pain wrapped in beauty. Weeping rainbows «-- this image is brilliant and I love it!
