"My ship never came in until it sailed"

Just Before Dawn

At a time when life can be hard to bear
Both clarifying and terrifying
I celebrate those people of good will
Who in the face of discouragement dare
Despite the despair in the air to still
Have open minds and arms and hearts who care
For those like me less fortunate than they
And out from the faithful heart's fountain share
The communion of their kindness today
Meeting us at the point of our need where
They could have but they did not turn away

I never knew winning until I lost
I never succeeded until I failed
I never realized what freedom cost
My ship never came in until it sailed
I needed nothing until all was gone
First terrifying then clarifying
Now it is darkest yet just before dawn

So wise and compelling, Stevie. You truly are inspired. You "force" the reader to think, but you do it in the most painless of ways. Thank you my friend. Love and peace from B.C., Canada,

Well done Steve, another perfect write that defies any one to critic it in any way. We can say how much we like it but there is no way to find fault.

Great write!

Can't help but love those precious souls who consistently administer life and light in the midst of the storms.

It's a challenge though!

Great - I like the last paragraph--'I never knew winning until I lost' etc - 'men in darkness saw a great light' We are in darkness until Jesus reveals to us the truth.
