"...when logic and proportion have fallen soggy dead and the white knight is chasing caterpillars and the dreams dissolve in your head, go ask Alice..."

~Jefferson Airplane

Dreams are necessity-
these pale lovers of the mind,
wild-maned wonders,
are pure hope in rocky canyons of need
and spring up in flowered greed
from the landscape,
logic and proportion guilty by-standers
between passions

We never fell from grace,
it remained a part of us
when we flew innocent and blind into the stars,
being abandoned by the gods who set us free,
then we plunged to earth, our wings afire,
clinging to each other in our pain
becoming creators of stumbling beauty
in search of love unborn, still unborn

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! This belts me right between the eyes, and then some! Grace Slick is some scary lady but she is part of my teenage heritage and her tremulous "White Rabbit" still gives me the goosebumps... BUT THIS!!! Quintessential poetry at its best, showing tons and telling nothing but the inexpressible truth expressed in the most alluring of elipses... Grace is gonna have to do a version of this Maverick... a beauty, thank you... move over Bugs! :)) LOL Kate... am keeping to enjoy this ride again and again... TY xx

Oh so true. We were born from Grace. And so many people forget that Grace and Mercy follow us...its up to us to acknowledge it. Great poem... :)

One of my most favorite songs. Interesting miss-quotation. What are logic and proportion anyway? Don't remember much of those from my childhood, Seems I have allways lived my life in search of a love yet unborn. What a wonderful write! Pierre.

You have taken the tale of "White Rabbit" to yet another dimension, Linda, it has evolved into something not only more, but something that now makes more sense. Bitchen write, Linda.

The white rabbit took me away in those immortal years. The most fun and the dangers were there for the mortals. Your verse sent me back too and I loved the visit.
Thank you!

Now this does bring me flashbacks of times when love and peace truly meant the hope of the future, so many hopes and dreams were built and fell in the years when the music created the politics of our times.

Dreams as pale lovers of the mind was exceptional poetic imagery.
"Becoming creators of stumbling beauty" brings so much into perspective about all mens bumbling attempts at being relevant.

Wondrous pen
