Female Genital Mutilation is an act of barbarism which should be eradicated. It often brings a shocking death to innocent female children who are forced to undergo this inhumane practice which Africans know as rite of passage.

The huts were thatched with mud
They were cleaned and decorated
They were filled with laughter
As jubilant women danced inside

Everybody was happy except Amina
She was an Eight-year-old child
She knew what women wanted to do
She was gripped by fear and terror

Amina was forced to sit on a mat
Two women pulled her legs apart
Another woman worked at her genitals
Amina's private parts were cut across

Ruthless hands inhumanely mutilated her
She was stitched with a silk thread
Amina started bleeding so excessively
Every attempt to save the child failed

The little girl passed away on the spot
The merry day had become a mournful day
Many a child had been lost this way
Rite of passage is a big cultural wrong
Let us all eradicate this evil practice

This is absolutely sickening, Abdi-Noor. Thank you for bringing it to light. May it be stopped now!!! Love and peace to you,

It is my understanding that this rite sometimes continues even here in the United States. Horrific. People believe as they have been taught. What I did not realize is that so many deaths occur. I am so glad that you brought our attention to this. Is there anything that we can do?

I agree with all the comments below. This is an inhumane practice and should be abolished.

Brother Abdi-Noor would that the right to a non-barbairic life become a rite of passage for girls and women become a reality in Africa and worldwide is a dream I fear not to see in my lifetime. So sad when we look closely at the real reason behind this alleged rite practiced by women but no doubt designed by men. I am saddened beyond description. Peace, love, and blessings my warrior friend. <Mikii>

One wonders when it will end Abdi Noor! P pray it will be soon! It is a shame that the practice still exists in some nations, if only they could become educated!God let it be so!
