This can be continued. A lot of material to cover and a whole lot

Hippie Gypsy Journal for Linda’s challenge

Hippie Gypsies
& ‘Alice in Wonderland

Alice is a hippie gypsy
She fell down the rabbit hole into wonderland
She took advice from a ‘hookah smoking’ caterpillar
She followed a white rabbit to a tea party
There was a march hare and a mad hatter
The Queen was having a croquet match
She cried ‘Off with their heads’
She even wanted to behead the Cheshire Cat
‘Poor Alice’ sang Grace Slick
as an airplane played over head
She sang of mind altering experiences
It was just a thought we discussed

Assassinations and War
Napalm dropped on farmers villages
Women and children killed
We talked about the reasons
and couldn’t come up with any
Young men brought home in body bags
Their names now on’The Wall’
We had friends that fought and died

We talked about the Sixties music
and the musical events
The hippies smoked marijuana
They were gypsies and groovy
They held the Monterey Pop Festival
where the ‘Byrds’ were ‘Eight Miles High’
The ‘Animals’ sang ‘House of the Rising Sun’
‘Janis Joplin’ sang the blues
with ‘Big Brother and the Holding Company’
We talked and felt a ‘Canned Heat’

‘Country Joe and the Fish’
sang ‘Whoopee We;re All Gonna Die’
‘Otis Redding’ sat on the ‘Dock of the Bay’
‘Ravi Shankar’ played his sitar
‘The Who’ stuttered ‘My Generation’
‘Pete Townsend’ smashed his guitar’
‘Jimi Hendrix’ turned into ‘Purple Haze’
and set fire to his guitar

Wow! Dale you ressurected the sixties in high style! that is some journal entry! Fantastic. What memories you revived. I agree also with Linda's points made. Yet, each generation contributes both good and bad. Thanks for sharing!

So often we've pondered our generation. I think we went within--to the evolvement of some parts of ourselves and were a dynamic force for change & motion for society as a whole(something both you and Jude express through a reoccuring theme), but to the detriment of our children who were left to fend for themselves(I speak in general terms)in a real sense. Not to say we neglected them, but maybe left them bereft of a stable foundation because of the events which left us trembling from the shaky ground beneath us. Oh how I enjoyed this journal, Dale, and our talks!

Love, Lin
