VIGILS from the Office of the Dead
by Brother Bernard Seif

Openness to letting life unfold and, in a sense, dancing with it, usually resolves most mysteries sooner or later. It is the "later" part that is often the real challenge..

A Poet Lives in Time

My 500th posting.

A poet writes in time---
her time, our time
of love and death
of kittens and of cats.

A poet writes in time
in measured lines and
metered phrases
beating time,. making time

A poet in time writes
when life and love
overcomes ego
and self-consciousness

when the poet lies
exposed to the reality
of change, decay, and death
In such a time the poet writes

In time a poet lives
poem time, real time
alive to the changes and chances
of a weary world.

in tune with sea and sky
and land, alive to the
pain of those around-
In time the poet lives.

In time a poet dies
wearied by life lived
without rest or deceit
soul flayed and

spilled upon a rock feeding
the ravens of the gods
for the crime of bringing
insight to the people of earth

in a poem recalled
or a remembered line
Thru time the poet will live.

Congratulation on your 500th poem, John. No wonder poets are often depressed individuals. But you express this well, John. Love and peace to you,
