yesterday [almonds for my love]

the orchard of time offered my love
to gather, ripe, a day of almonds;
sweet, as almonds are, and bitter
as almonds can be, in this duality
their very own identity, what makes
the almonds distinctly almonds
unmistakable amidst all fruits.

the orchard of life offered my love
to seed, and watch it grow, the tree
of yet more days; sweet, as days
can be, and bitter, as days are
in that duality, their very own identity
what makes each day amidst all days
unmistakable, in life.

the orchard of love offered in time
and life a consciousness; sweet
as consciousness is, and bitter
as consciousness can be, this
duality its own identity, what makes
of consciousness the ripeness
to be gathered and to be sown again
unmistakable amidst all fruits of love.

a gift, as sweet as gifts are
as bitter as gifts can be, was offered
yesterday, in a dual day, unmistakable
amidst all days, to my love.

and I know that, from this gift
my love will grow a whole new orchard
of almond trees; sweet as their fruits are
bitter as they may be, in their duality
their own, the being’s own identity –
what makes those who receive them in their
dual wholeness, like my love, unmistakably whole
amidst all unaccepted – thus, barren -
bitter-sweet dualities.

Hi A
I have to read your poetry when my house is quiet and I can sink into the beauty of your words, outside vibes not invited.
This is beautiful, authentic and wise
life is like that
bitter and sweet.........

makes us appreciate the dulcet side of things

Alexandra,

You have captured that day so well. You must have sensed those tears of joy (the sweetness) and sorrow (the bitter) that fell upon my tongue. Then you caressed me with your love and gave my soul the comfort that it needed to swallow both.

Amo te muito,
Teu Joseph

The duality of life is both perplexing but yet also very simple...
As night follows day, so therefore love follows hate...
A thin seperating line indeed..

This is a very good play on the same phrases, used differently, but ht same, until at last, it comes full circle and the orchard has been fulfilled. Good.

Not a believer in coincidence, this impact of this poem is clear as crystal today, Alexandra. The last stanza, particulary. Acceptance being the lesson. Beautifully written and conceived. Thank you...
