True Friend

True friends are hard to find, so when you find one, latch onto him or her, because they are rare.

True Friend
by Barbara Lynn Terry

When you are feeling so afraid
there is always one who can save the day
someone you called today
and told you, "I am on my way."

This person listened and heard what you had to say
and didn't grunt and groan and hang up the phone
but calmed you down by saying "I am on my way"
and these words calmed your fears away.

There are many like this person in the world
who will laugh, dance, and twirl
across the danceroom floor of life
to help you chase away all the strife
that has made you miserable and sad.

Who is this person that is so dear to all of us?
Who is it that waited as we stepped off of the bus?
Who is this person who hugged and showed us they cared?
Who is this person who makes us unaware?
Who is this person who comes to your rescue,
with only thoughts of urgency for you?

We call this person at the days end,
our one and only
true friend.

"A true friend is one who can pour out all the contents of one's heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away."

I want to thank everyone here, and even those that haven't read this poem yet, thank you for being my true friends. Thank you all for the advice and encouragements and inspirations you have given me. When I wrote this, I had a very special true friend in mind, but she is gone now, and I pray that my aunt Hazel is helping my mother watch over me. My Aunt Hazel was always a true friend to everyone, including her family.

I am so overwhelmed by the outpouring of lovely thoughts by everyone here. Thank you all so much from deep in my heart.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

"True" friends are precious gems, Barbie; you express this well via your verses here. "True" friends are not that easily found as I have discovered. Thank you, Barbie. Love and peace to you,

A wonderful tribute to a "true friend." There is no struggle that can't be made a little easier by the closeness of a friend who, though they probably can't change the situation, will share it with you to lighten your burdens. Just the knowing that someone cares that much about what we are going through makes life's trials and tribulations easier to bear.
Take care,
Sherry

True and honorable friends are very much hard to find, especially in this world. Sometimes I wonder if this inherent or learned behavior.

I have known some wonderful people that life has hardened. Often that beautiful light goes out in them and for a season they are incapable of giving anything. I believe we all have a responsibility, if we are so led, to know when someone else needs a true friend for a season too, and give of ourselves to help get them back on track.

This was a thoughtful and thought-provoking write!
