We see it happen, right in front of our eyes. And just zap away.

Watch me lay flat on my back

Too weak to move, unable to blink

Watch my wide open eyes stare

At copper colored skies

Where not a cloud passes by

Watch flies walk in and out

My half opened mouth

Roaming my lips and tongue

Ruptured from lack of moisture

Watch my scraggy limbs lay

In strange poses

Beside my skeletal shell

Not trembling, not praying

Watch my bloated belly

Exploding from oedema

Watch my sores and wounds

That neither bleed nor heal

Fight for a space of rippled skin

Watch the vultures eagerly circling

Ever closer above what's left of me

Watch my mother's heart break

From watching me

Powerless to save me

Don't go away, donít zap away

And return after the break

To watch me die

truth's agony staring out at us. be ashamed one and all...
if only the WILL for solutions was as large as the mindless GREED out there preventing their realization.
make me world dictator and i'll gladly re-direct humanity's path.
a superb delivery, rage.

The wealth of compassion, simplicity of courage, and boldness of love in WATCH ME is so intense that it virtually reduces commentary to irrelevance. You expose in these lines the great shameful horror of hypocrisy on which we denizens of modern societies stuff our bloated egoes every day. The only truly worthwhile response to a work such as this is moral action. Even so, one is obligated to say thank you for making your readers not just watch--but actually see.

Dearest Rage,
Thank you dearly for this vital, tragic write!
How have we become so complacent?
You heart beats worthy beats when care is taken in action: like this poem!
May we do more NOW! Thank you for raising deepened awareness!
