Blinking into Light

"My Grandma said each person ought to live twice / That a first time just for practice would be nice"

Blinking into Light

Ungrudging and understanding I have paid
Debts left behind them by those who came before
Those unwitting mistakes my family made
Back when people never talked about certain
Things and who lived in a world which is no more
When no one dared to peek behind the curtain

My Grandma said each person ought to live twice
That a first time just for practice would be nice
Since nobody knows what they are doing when
They are doing it just dumb luck now and then
But as for the big things we just never know
So we see our life come and then watch it go

Once for practice and for real and that is all
Our first rehearsal is our opening night
We blow lines bump into scenery then fall
And the audience is just out of our sight
Where the house might be empty at curtain call
When at last we are led blinking into light

What a wise Grandma. Unfortunately, there are those of us who never learn even if given a thousands lives. With all due respect to Grandma:) but the Lord who made man is much wiser. One life with all of its opportunities sufficies the true seeker of truth and sanity. And the Lord is always a reflection away.

May Allah bless you and Grandma and all the peoples of the world.
Thank you, Steven!

Wise, your Grandma. I think we'll get that second chance up the road, if we don't dissolve ourselves in a nuclear wasteland.
All through the centuries, advancing and then retreating having to go through the same things over & over having not learned the lessons. Mule-headed we are, wanting our own way. Reverting back to
the pre-historic man mentality even after being shown glimpses of the light. Always looking to the "hereafter". Truly believe this is our heaven or hell. This is the main stage. And boy are we blowing our lines! With that~~adieu, mon ami...

It would be nice, though we shouldn't know about the second time around or most of us would surely waste the first one...

Interesting notion, living twice, especially on this plane.

"It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgement."

I agree with Lew . . . this life is a sort of basic training for eternity where we will live the second time, in His presence or apart from it.

Your Grandmother was right and that's what God is working at right now. This life is practice the next will come when we know better how to live and who to live for.
God Bless,
Lew
