The Great World Towers
composed:
Spt. 14, 2001

Little Katie enters the room,
Her crayons in her hand;
Rosa listens on the phone,
From the kitchen where she stands.

Katie colors Pokèmon,
Child heroes of her dreams;
Rosa turns the radio off,
So no one hears the screams.

Aunt Tillie comes and gives her hugs,
A little tighter than before;
Katie runs and hides from Tillie's eyes,
A game they've played before.

By three o'clock the time has come,
For Mommy to arrive;
Perhaps she left with Daddy,
And they'll be home by five.

She stays awake into the night,
Talks proudly of her Daddy;
Tillie holds her in her arms,
Katie whispers, "I'm pretty like my Mommy."

As she falls asleep in Tillie's arms,
She gently asks us why:
Why aren't they here to be with me,
From the Towers in the sky?
