Just a small poem as a little tribute to a wonderful poet, who's work I admire a lot!
Sitting in the sun
enjoying the warmth, the light
your book of poetry in my lap
the words finding their way to my mind
touching my heart, penetrating my soul
sometimes sweet and slow as a river flow
sometimes hot and sensual making me
hungry for my sugar baby's love
sometimes shouting loud as a cry for freedom
swift bullet words that ricochet against
your conscience and the memories of the
Martin's and the Malcolm's and the 2Pack's
sometimes bringing the scent and beat of
Mother Africa to your nostrils and veins
that Mother Africa that embraced me too
though white skinned, with a laughing welcome
beautiful strong black woman poet
keep on writing the words that sing the
jazzy tunes of the City
the blues of the 'hoods'
that break dance the Hip Hop rhythm
of the rap generation
You are bookmarked as everlasting
