Old Buck

Every so often I remind my self
Of all the good memories stowed on the shelf

For just a few moments I will find
Wonderful memories left behind

Today I choose to ride a good horse again
Old Buck is where it all began

Past his prime but still stout and stroug
He taught me to ride ignoring things I did wrong

From a walk to a trot then a gallop we went
From his back life's frustrations I could vent

The time came to move to bolder steeds
Old Buck's age couldn't fill my needs

Intead of pasture and to save his pride
New riders he would teach to ride

After Buck good horses have come and gone
None of their memories will be as strong

Horses become friends in a silent way and we cherish their love as they trade that off with us. This is a wonderfil poem about Old Buck. I'll see about a ride at the stables next weekend. Thanks for giving me the quiet and gentle memory of Old Buck.
