“When I’m in the garden.”
she said
“When the soil feels like food in my hands
and my knees are muddied.”
“When flowers responds to my touch
with new growth.”
“When a black swallowtail butterfly
has found a home in my parsley.”
“When ripe tomatoes freeze on the vine
drop to the Earth
and insure volunteers next year.”
she thought some more
“When the posture of a stamen, stalk, or leaf
communicates something to me.”
“When buds orgasm overnight
into pure fragrant sensuality.”
she went on
“When the dawn mates with dew
and rainbows are born.”
“That’s when,”
she said
“I’m really happy.”
