This is a short poem I wrote on a sultry summer morning in Tennessee.

Small Town Sunday Morning

By Gene Alvin

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

Roosters crowing dawn is nigh,

Squirrels dashing to and fro,

Distant chuchbell, apple pie,

Horn’s a honking let’s all go,

Small town Sunday Morning.

Children laughing in the park,

Running, swinging, playing ball,

Song of blue jay, sparrow, lark,

Summer breeze, a mother’s call,

Small town Sunday Morning

Church is calling don’t be late,

Ladies in their Sunday best,

Truants finding fishing bait

Everyone is truly blessed,

Small town Sunday morning.

Summer sun’s rays beaming down

On picnics filled with love,

Ice cream truck rolls into town,

topping off the memories of,

Small town Sunday Morning.

I love your work, glad to have found you on the author search. I am from the neighboring state of Kentucky, alas I am not retired, but have picked up writing once again, I have never really quit, just dabbled for a while, you work is impressive and look forward to reading more.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling
